The first organizations
  1. The Society for Human Rights was  founded by Henry Gerber in Chicago. The society is the first gay rights organization as well as the oldest documented in America.

  2. The Mattachine Society, the first national gay rights organization, is formed by Harry Hay, considered by many to be the founder of the gay rights movement.

  3. The first lesbian-rights organization in the United States, the Daughters of Bilitis, was established in San Francisco in 1955.

Definitions

Lesbian: a homosexual woman.

Gay:(of a person, especially a man) homosexual.

Bisexual:sexually attracted to both men and women.

Transgender:denoting or relating to a person whose sense of personal identity and gender does not correspond with their birth sex.

Queer:An umbrella term sometimes used by LGBTQA+ people to refer to the entire LGBT community. 2) An alternative that some people use to "queer" the idea of the labels and categories such as lesbian, gay, bisexual, etc. 

Questioning:a phase or period where an individual re-assesses their sexual orientation/identity and/or gender identity

Intersex: a general term used for a variety of conditions in which a person is born with a reproductive or sexual anatomy that doesn’t seem to fit the typical definitions of female or male

Pan-sexual:not limited in sexual choice with regard to biological sex, gender, or gender identity.

2 Spirit:a culturally distinct gender that describes Indigenous North Americans who fulfills one of many mixed gender roles found traditionally among many Native Americans and Canadian First Nations indigenous groups

Asexual:without sexual feelings or associations.

Ally:heterosexual and cisgender person who supports equal civil rights, gender equality, LGBT social movements, etc.
